About Tim Palmieri...

Tim Palmieri has made a name for himself as one of the most impressive young guitarists on the national music scene today. Playing with his band The Breakfast alongside artists such as moe., Umphrey’s McGee, Tea Leaf Green, and Phish’s Mike Gordon, the New Haven native has amassed a loyal following of obsessive fans who keep tabs on just about every note.

While prominent in the jam scene for his aggressive and improvisational guitar style, Palmieri has grown equally comfortable behind an acoustic guitar and tours tirelessly as a solo performer. His acoustic showcases are peppered with a mix of thoughtful originals, classic covers and unexpected rarities, each of which he makes his own through a distinctive style of rhythmic looping.

At the same time, Palmieri refuses to get too comfortable as a performer and thrives on challenging himself in new ways. He has twice covered the entire Beatles catalogue in alphabetical order and keeps fans guessing by playing in improvisational jazz bands. His latest project — which goes by the name Kung Fu — has been hailed as a modern super group and has already made a splash on the national scene.

Look forward to big things from this guitar virtuoso — he is on the move!

The Breakfast

The Breakfast is a hard-hitting jazz rock experimental quartet whose music ranges from progressive rock to sonic landscapes.  Since the group’s inception 11 years ago the band has played over 1000 shows throughout the country, released 6 albums and is on the verge of releasing a 7th.  The Breakfast’s sound and energy are founded in the psychedelic but their music features some incredibly well-crafted song structures and melodies, showing the members’ gifts as highly talented musicians.  Indeed, original members Tim Palmieri (guitar) and Adrian Tromantano (drums) provide the distinguishing characteristics the band has thrived on from the beginning.  The two are able to reach near-telepathic communication on stage, ripping through progressive shredding licks and jams without missing a beat.  This is held together by the sonic glue of longtime, though newly re-added, keyboardist Jordan Giangreco, and supported from beneath by the jazz sensibilities of bassist Chris DeAngelis.

In 2003/2004 The Breakfast accepted their first Jammy award for Best Emerging Artist at The Madison Square Garden Theater along with Phil Lesh, Dr John and other distinguished honorees.  In its long career the band has performed with other music greats such as The Wailers, moe, Mike Gordon, Umphrey’s McGee, Disco Biscuits, Robby Krieger (The Doors), Garaj Mahal, Soulive, Lettuce, Tea Leaf Green and Particle.  Their intense touring schedule has featured appearances at such notable music festivals as 10,000 Lakes Festival (twice), moe.down, Gathering of the Vibes, Camp Bisco, and High Sierra, among others.

Rejuvenated by the recent re-addition of original member Jordan Giangreco on keys, these four virtuosos continue to turn heads with each show.  Together they rage forward with renewed mission and commitment to solid performances for passionate and dedicated fans everywhere.  The group celebrates the upcoming September 12th release of its highly anticipated second live album Live As Is, which chronicles The Breakfast’s epic performance at The Field in Bridgeport, CT on February 28th, 2009.

Breakfast is served…

Kung Fu

Kung Fu's original meaning is somewhat different than today's typical understanding, referring to one's expertise in any skill, not necessarily martial. It's a compound of two words -- "achievement" and "man" -- so that a literal rendering would be "human achievement." Its connotation is that of accomplishment arrived at by great effort.

And that is exactly what this band is about.

Pooling the collective talent and achievement of these five musicians creates a musical martial art not to be missed. Spawned in November 2009, these guys separately have practiced Kung Fu on their instruments throughout their lives and now join forces for a funk fusion dynamo that leaves brains whirling and feet dancing.

Whether honoring their musical roots or inventing new styles all their own, Kung Fu brings a lot to the table. The band can play any style -- rock it out, funk it up, improvise, sing, and basically entertain you with beautiful frequencies and ideas.

Dave Livolsi on bass is the foundation of the group, providing groove and rhythm not to be ignored. He can be summed with his own words: "Music is meant to be played with passion and honesty. Communicating with the other musicians through music is how our souls connect." He has played with the likes of  John Scofield, Jazz Is Dead, Bill Evans, T Lavitz, Nelson Rangel, Melvin Sparks, and many more.

Kris Jensen on the saxophone brings the jazz element to the group. He studied with Jackie McLean and later taught as his assistant at the Hart School of Music throughout the 80's and 90's. He has performed in a variety of settings over the years, most notably with Maynard Ferguson, Dickey Betts, Steve Davis, Nat Reeves, Jaimoe, Jesse Hameen. He has also appeared with Dave Matthews Band and Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule.

Todd Stoops on keyboards does things that normal keyboardists don't do. He reinvents the instrument as well as composes songs that reinvent the live concert experience. While creating new rhythmic possibilities, he pushes the band into energy levels worthy of religious ecstasy. He has played with his national touring Vermont rock quartet RAQ while gracing the stage with many notables such as Mike Clark, Umphrey’s McGee, moe., The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and many others.  He endorses Nord and Hammond keyboards, and Dunlop effects pedals.

Tim Palmieri on guitar is the cosmic rocker of the group. He has made a name for himself as one of the most impressive young guitarists on the national music scene today. Playing with his Connecticut band The Breakfast along with drummer Adrian Tramontano, he sets out to combine complexity with taste, musical discipline with improvisation, and compositionally will do anything and everything that hasn't been done before. Challenging the listener and inviting them into his world of musical knowledge, he welcomes diversity of spirit and musical influence to all who seek it. He has played with Stephen Perkins, Willie Waldman, moe., Umphrey's Mcgee, Marc Brownstein and Alan Aucoin of The Disco Biscuits, Jeff Pevar, members of Frank Zappa's group, and many more.

Adrian Tramontano on drums is the animal of the group. His raw talent and self-taught virtuosity harnesses the collective energy while providing a platform with which to explore any train of thought instantly. Tramontano and Palmieri have been playing in bands together since high school, most notably in the Connecticut rock band The Breakfast, playing nationally and jamming alongside Jeff Pevar, Scott Murowski, Mike Gordon, Willie Waldman, moe.'s Vinnie Amico, Brian Jordan, Tim Carbone, Steve Molitz, Tea Leaf Green, members of Umphrey's McGee and many more.

All in all, Kung Fu sets out to express the music that moves them, the skills they have developed, and the energy that fuels them via their souls and the souls who listen.

The Beatles A to Z

It all begins with the Beatles. The music they recorded; the influence they left behind.  So one evening in March of 2006, musicians Tim Palmieri and Sean Miller had a crazy thought: What if two people tried to play every Beatles song ever recorded alphabetically from A to Z?

Thus began The Beatles A to Z.

Joined by a cast of talented musicians, Palmieri and Miller have performed the entire Beatles catalogue in alphabetical order over five nights in August for the past two years. All in all, that's more than 225 songs!

News of the undertaking graced newspaper headlines and accolades spread by word of mouth, organically growing the crowd with each gig.

For many in the audience, the event was a throwback to years past. Stories of emotional connections could be heard after just about any tune, as might be expected considering this music provided the soundtrack to a generation’s coming of age. The event also attracted a dedicated following of young Beatles aficionados, who tracked and critiqued the setlists each week.

As musicians, Palmieri and Miller have been influenced by The Beatles from an early age, which contributes to their vast knowledge of the music, lyrics and nuances in the original recordings. Their mission in presenting this project is to perform each song just as the original was recorded -- all the while making each tune their own. Another purpose for presenting this is to share their enthusiasm and passion of the Fab Four.
